The society Anjuman-e-Islam, Dharwad came into existence in year 1914 with a mission to educate the minorities of the region. The main Anjuman hall came into being in the year 1938. Mr. Leslie Wilson the then governor of Bombay laid the foundation of Anjuman-e-Islam, Dharwad on 27th Aug 1953 as a part of movement of propagation of education among the minority communities through establishing Anjuman-E-Islam’s institutions in the erstwhile Bombay presidency extending from Ahamedabad in Gujarat to Ranebennur in Karnataka. The management of Anjuman-E-Islam Dharwad has made all possible utilization of assets and resources at its command to ensure that the fruit of education reaches all the sections of the society irrespective of cast, creed and the color.

                The institutes of Anjuman-e-Islam are located in the heart of the city Dharwad which is a citadel of education, culture, literature and the music. It is a birth place of Dr. D.R. Bendre, the Jnana-peetha awardee for epoch „Naku-Tanti‟. Shri Girish Karnad the famous playwright, Jnana-peetha and DadabhaiPhalke awardee. Smt. GangubaiHangal, Padmavibhushana awardee and Dr. ChanveerKanvi noted kannada poet. GiraddiGovindraj the famous critic, writer and the playwright.

                Further, it is a land to receive contributions of JanabShahwaliAllahSha, a noted urdu writer and Janab. Abdul Gafar Chogtai, Mohammed Gouse and Malik Sab the freedom fighters who took part in non-cooperative movement against the British regime. We salute all the above noted dignitaries of this region.

Roll of Honor

Since its inception Anjuman-E-Islam, Dharwad was served by many honorable Presidents / Administrators. We have a glimpse of the honorable personalities who served this society.

The first step towards revolution in minority education was taken with the initiation of Anjuman High School which came into existence in the year 1953. It was the first urdu high school in the region. The success of Anjuman High School motivated the management to start the junior college by name Anjuman Independent pre university college, Dharwad in the year 1971. With the zeal to provide education at all levels the management in the year 1986 started Anjumanurdu primary school and Anjuman Arts and Commerce College at its premises.

To fulfill the demand of time / need of the hour professional education to the society, the management added Bachelor of Business Administration course under the name Anjuman BBA college in the year 1996 and then the management provided IT education through Bachelor of Computer Application Course in the year 2000 under the new name Anjuman institute of Information Science and Management. Further, a Post Graduate Diploma Course in Computer Application was added in the year 2004. The Anjuman institute of diploma in education (DEd) was started in the year 2004-05.

Anjuman Arts and Commerce College started in the year 1986 with 14 faculty and 193 students. Presently, there are 15 faculty, 20 Non teaching staff and 579 students. Later, in the year 1991 science section was added and since then the college is named as, Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce College, Dharwad. The Arts and Commerce sections were admitted to grant in aid in the year 1995. But the science section remained unaided. Consequently, as per the then trend the student’s strength declined and the science section became totally defunct from the year 2000.

In the year 2004 the institution volunteered for NAAC accreditation and was accredited with B+ in Cycle-1 and in the year 2014 with B Grade in Cycle-2.Due to the change in the management and the principals the reaccreditation was delayed and now the institution has volunteered for the reaccreditation Cycle-3.
